You have to give Coldplay props after the band put their plans on hold to tour over the environmental impact of their concerts. They’re one of the few acts that walk the walk, not talks the talk. We need more of them.
After talking to several managers and artists we have a new global issue that’s on the level or even more problematic than climate change. It’s the cov19 pandemics and the next pandemic. What does this mean for the future touring industry? It means a lot. It means stadium tours could be a thing of past.
Many managers and artists agree that we have a ‘moral responsibility’ and a role to play in preventing the next pandemic while flattening the curve of the present COV19 pandemic. That could mean no more huge stadium tours. No more artist meet and greets. Artists performing in smaller and intimate outside sheds could be the answer. In the event of the public health crisis, more artists are focusing on live streaming their shows.
There are few big stadium tours that are set to kick off in summer that most likely won’t happen. In fact, no way it’s going to happen. The Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe Stadium tour is set to kick off June while The Hella Mega Tour that features Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer begins in May.
We are all in this together and we’ll all figure this out.
Did you see Elon Musk’s Tweet? He tweeted Coachella should postpone itself until it stops sucking. Musk also tweeted that the panic over the coronavirus was dumb and stupid. This confused lots of bloggers because they consider Musk a genius. But is Musk right? Is the panic over the COV-19 hype and panic? And what does this mean for the concert business? The performing arts world has taken a major blow. Pearl Jam, Miley Cyrus and Madonna also shuttered gigs over virus fears. If the panic continues, lots of businesses will fold.
Outside of pandemics, we also have climate change fear that has effected the concert business. Coldplay is not touring because of climate change. Will other acts follow so the earth has a few years left to live? Bloggers, politicians and journalists are telling folks that civilization has a few years left because of climate change.
Did you see the headline “Elon Musk Worries that SpaceX Won’t Get to Mars Before He Dies.”?
Musk and his buddies believe the only hope they have of living to the age of 65 is if we colonize Mars.
I can’t get enough of the track People Say by Ben Wylen and you probably won’t either despite what genre you love. The LA based singer takes cues singer-songwriters like Springsteen and Coldplay which is refreshing from beats with a topline. The mid-tempo piano track which comes off his forthcoming album was crafted by a dream team – string arranger Audrey Riley (The Cure, The Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins), and mixer Steve Fitzmaurice (Sam Smith, Lewis Capaldi). Check out the video here.
Upcoming Dates:
SXSW – Austin, TX
April 2nd – Rockwood Music Hall, New York, NY
April 7th – The Hotel Cafe, Los Angeles, CA
You can’t listen to singer-songwriter Hugo Valentine without being reminded of the classics like Elton John and Coldplay – when melodies and lyrics ruled, not topline and beats. Only a few artists on the planet can modernize a classic sound while creating a colorful character and I think the British singer did a decent job. He’s released 4 songs and my favorites are All I Want and Memories (near 200k streams). He picked up tastemakers support from the likes EarMilk and Essentially Pop. Give it a stream.
Coldplay will stop touring until they can offer ‘environmentally beneficial’ concerts. Frontman Chris Martin told BBC News that they won’t resume touring until they can ensure the tour is carbon neutral.
Billie Eilish will make her world world tour as green as possible by banning plastic straws. She also encouraged fans to bring reusable water bottles.
The 1975 have pledged to plant a tree for every ticket sold to their UK arena tour while Emma Banks, co-founder of Creative Artists Agency questions the need for musicians to tour on a big scale that comes along with 12-14 mega trucks transporting equipment.
