BPI and Brit Awards chief executive, Geoff Taylor, said the figures showed the UK is a “creative powerhouse” & he is absolutely correct. British acts account for 1 in 7 albums sold worldwide with 13.7% of worldwide sales. Sales of albums by British artists rose in Canada, Australia, Italy and Sweden, as well as the US.
Kings of A&R recently featured new acts from the UK including Flight Brigade who released their new track Housefire.
Flight Brigade almost completed their debut album, co-produced by Gavin Monaghan (The Editors, Kings of Leon, Robert Plant) and mixed by Donald Clark (The Knife, Noah & The Whale, Muse) at Artillery Studios. The album is due for release in early Autumn. Flight Brigade have released the official music video for their upcoming single ‘Housefire’ which is set in the Welsh mountains and follows the story of a girl fleeing the haunting influence of her past. They have been confirmed for Bestival and Glastonbury Festival. Housefire has a haunting atmospheric vibe with a singable anthem.

Colour The Atlas impresses with their new track Scared.
Colour The Atlas released the new track ‘Scared’ which comes off their new EP Amethyst. This is the band’s third EP and features the production of Jake Gosling, who has worked with notable artists including Ed Sheeran and George Ezra. The EP is slated for a June release in the UK and a September release in the US. Taken influences from Radiohead & Massive Attack the band has received play on notable stations in the UK such as Radio 1, Radio 2 and XFM and they’ve been featured on The Guardian’s New Band of the Day. The band has upcoming performances at 93 Ft East in London and The Fleet in Briston this June.

We’ve become an instant fan of the track ‘Maps‘ by Windmills
Windmills which is the moniker of genre-bending experimental ambient-indie loop artist, Cory Myraas. Now based in Kelowna, Windmills burst forth from the city of Vernon in the spring of 2011. Impressive both on record and in concert, Windmills has since developed a significant following in the Okanagan Valley and beyond. In the past 4 years, he has released a full-length FACTOR funded LP, a 5-track EP, and two singles over the last two years that have reached blogs across the globe. His latest release, “Maps”, premiered via Indie Shuffle in April and in two weeks the track found its way onto blogs and radio world-wide (Canada, Spain, Holland). He is set to release his second full-length LP in September of 2015. He has two cross-Canada tours in the Spring & festival stops at some of Canada’s largest festivals, sharing stages with some of the US top new artist.

Welsh indie pop act Cut Ribbons stirs with their latest Clouds.
Cut Ribbons released two EP’s and singles on Kissabilty Records , and won support from Radio 1, XFM, Radio Wales, The Line Of Best Fit and Clash magazine. The band describes their new single, ‘Clouds’, as being “like M83 having a food fight in Technicolor”. They have played festivals including Reading and Leeds, Boardmasters, SWN, and supported The Joy Formidable and Dry The River. They’re one of BBC Wales’ Horizons 12 and will releases a full length album this summer.

We can’t forget Habit On My Mind by Saltwater Sun
Saltwater Sun became a Kings favorite. Besides, sitting at #9 in Hype Machine’s Most Blogged Artists chart, this West London based five-piece has been receiving great reviews. GoldFlakePaint said, “There’s a ripple of London life trailing its way right through the heart of their debut track; the rush and the clamour, the full-hearted swagger of it all,” while EARMILK declared them “the perfect amalgamation of Alvvays and Best Coast.” The latest effort was produced by the band along with rising duo, Artery and will be released digitally through the independent label Hand In Hive.

And lastly Melbourne indie act Crepes impresses with their latest Cold Summers.
Crepes last 2014 EP ‘Ain’t Horrible’ was praised charting in the Hype Machine’s Top 10, as well as landing a spot in BIRP’s ‘Best of 2014′ compilation. The new year saw ‘Stages of Fear’ attract international radio-play (sitting among AirIt’s weekly top 10 ‘Most Ordered for Airplay’ chart, as well as landing spot rotation on Triple J). The new title track ‘Cold Summers‘ could be the summer indie anthem.
