Prince - apple Kings of A&R

“Tell me a musician who’s got rich off digital sales,” Prince told a newspaper. “Apple’s doing pretty good though, right?”

Although Prince is right in the fact that artist can’t get rich from digital sales alone, the internet has helped artists reach new heights like never before. Look at Adele and Taylor Swift for instance. Both artists have achieved massive success, due partly to the internet. Adele released ‘Hello‘ on YouTube and millions of people were talking about the song within seconds of it being uploaded.

Anyhow, the days when Prince ruled the world are surely different from today. Music is shared through social networks and marketed through iTunes, Amazon, and YouTube; instead of MTV, radio, and record stores. And of course, competition is more fierce.

Columbus alternative pop act Kid Runner has premiered the video for ‘Different Kind Of Love‘. Catchy and infectious, the band captures a similar sound to Passion Pit and Grouplove, yet brings their own flavor of alternative pop. The band has performed alongside the likes of The 1975 and Capital Cities and had music placements on ESPN, MTV, and the X-Games. Known for their high energy shows, the band will perform Columbus’ A&R Music Bar on Nov. 20th and Cleveland’s Grog Shop on November 21st.

Justin Bieber Kings of A&R

We live in a culture where a pop artist will do anything for a charting album. Justin Bieber went to the greatest lengths I have seen. Oddly enough, a cab ride with Lyft will get you a free Bieber CD. If you book a $5 Lyft ride, you’ll get a free Justin Bieber album download, and a credit back for $5 for another ride. Of course this whole marketing effort is to pump first week album sales hoping for a #1 album.

He is also giving away the album in “bundles” to ticket holders attending his upcoming shows.

Bo Rocha

We are looking forward to the upcoming release of London songstress Bo Rocha. Her first track ‘Live Fast Or Die‘ that comes off her Even Green EP via Bait & Switch that drops tomorrow is experimental yet very infectious. Bo popped on the scene earlier this year and gained some traction after uploading the track ‘Tangerine Flake” on SoundCloud.

Armors

Orange County indie alternative act Armors has garnered over 185K plays on Spotify & SoundCloud, while their self released singles ‘Parasite’ and ‘Old House’ received strong support from Los Angeles KROQ as well as numerous blogs. Drawing comparisons to Walk the Moon & X Ambassadors, the band has supported The Colourist, New Beat Fund, and Kopecky. The band will support Meg Myers at the El Rey Theatre on 11/17. The track ‘Aubrey‘ hit me hard with it’s slick production and catchy vocal line.
