Amelie Jat has just released her latest single, “2028,” which features 80’s-inspired synths and dancey four-on-the-floor drums. This marks a departure from her usual pop-punk style, where she drew inspiration from artists like Avril Lavigne, Maggie Lindemann, and LØLØ. With “2028,” Jat presents a more layered and emotionally rich sound, moving away from the simple 2000’s throwback.

The sparkling production on “2028” is the work of James McMillan, a long-time collaborator and Emmy-nominated producer, with whom she previously worked on successful hits like “my band hates you!,” “Therapy,” and “Faking Parties.” Together, they created a  sound that complemented Jat’s diary-like lyrics and ability to craft cutting phrases.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Amelie Jat began her musical journey with bedroom pop production and has now transitioned into the pop-punk universe, influenced by artists such as Maggie Lindemann, Avril Lavigne, and LØLØ. As a multi-instrumentalist, she started songwriting at  11, and she has since become a verified artist with the hope of connecting with people through her music. CONTINUE READING

Amy Susan Wallace’s aka Space Memory Effect debut album, “One Thing More,” is a bittersweet dose of musical nostalgia that speaks to both the lovestruck and the lovelorn. Amy skillfully weaves together rich piano compositions and diverse instrumental arrangements, paying tribute to the nonconformist artists that helped her transcend her own young adult struggles. The tracks in “Space Memory Effect” echo the cherished sounds of early R.E.M., Replacements, and 10,000 Maniacs, serving as a spiritual reckoning with feeling disconnected from one’s time and place while seeking a path away from the current nihilistic loneliness.

Through her vulnerable storytelling, Amy lovingly bears witness to our detachment from the ideals that once shaped us in our youth, enticing us to revisit the flame of those ideals that still burn within us. Whether you’ve experienced feelings of inadequacy, abandonment, or disconnection from the present moment, Amy’s wistful ballads will deeply resonate with you.
