Kings favorite Zara Kershaw is back with a new song release titled “Landslides”. It will get stuck in your head with a first listen with its haunting melody and slick electro production. Zara has seen early signs of success with the most recent collaboration with Hospital Records producer Etherwood on the single ‘Souvenirs‘, which landed on #9 on the iTunes Electronic Chart and spins from KISS FM and XFM.
Kershaw notes, “We recorded the drums and keys at a studio in South East London, but the majority of Landslides was made at home in Brighton, where I wrote the whole song on piano first. I worked alone on producing the track for months and months, playing with percussive elements and synths before getting anyone else involved. It was my baby that I kept to myself, whilst I figured out what the song needed to be. Then eventually I called some friends in to help me record it. There are so many songs out there about wanting and loving another person. Landslides experiments with the heaviness and the electricity that comes with someone you know wanting you instead. It also deals with the realisation that this person has now become both the problem and the cure for you too.”
I’m convinced Z. Kershaw will make splash in 2016.

Although well known in the UK, I wanted to note that Mystery Jets will release their fifth album ‘Curve Of The Earth‘ on January 15th. The band released the lead-off song ‘Telomere’, a fantastic spacey and atmospheric indie rock track. Blaine Harrison explained he came up with the idea for the song after reading Patti Smith’s book, Just Kids. “There’s this great line in there where she said “the victories and the plights of your ancestors live through you in your blood”. I started thinking about ancestry and I wonder if, all the people who’ve come before you in your bloodline, if part of them does live on in your essence.” The new album will have a release via Caroline International and the album was recorded in east London.

London indie rockers Pure Youth have just released the video for ‘New November‘ that comes off the ‘On Our Way’ EP. The London band formed in 2014 has already picked up some wins with the first single ‘I’m Not Yours’ which was featured on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist and clocked 126k+ streams. All in all, the new single “New November” is a mature & sophisticated sound for a band that has only been together for a year. The band shows no signs of slowing down having supported Youth Club and No Devotion on the road.

Indie alternative pop act Sleeping Wolf is making noise with the latest track ‘Ghost’. The Los Angeles duo is a collaboration of Steve Solomon & Jake Newton who began writing in 2014 and have a broad range of influences. The release of their debut ‘EP’ got initial traction having been handpicked by iTunes as a ‘new music spotlight’ and has had nearly million streams across Soundcloud & YouTube. Their latest single ‘Ghost‘ which is layered in classic 80’s synths is my favorite, and is the first of the tracks to be released in 2016. The band notes, “Ghost has been hanging around our subconscious for a while. We’ve written versions and variations of this song a few times before we landed on the current iteration. We wanted nostalgia and something that would tear at your heart while dance.”

If you haven’t heard of the Nova Scotia, Canadian outfit Rain Over St. Ambrose, that could all change soon. They dub themselves as Trans-Fat Rock, but seriously the track ‘Broken Love‘ is awesome, and reeks of coolness. The video directed by Scott Simpson (David Myles, Carleton Stone) is also well crafted and reveals the bands live performance. Featuring backup vocals from Jennah Barry, the single spent some weeks on CBC Radio 3’s R3-30 charts but it can go much further, a couple of ‘check-out-this-band’ tweets from celebs would serve them well.
