We have become instant fans of Cavalry after listening to the track ‘An Understanding‘. This five-piece alt-folk act recently emerged from Liverpool and have already earned support slots with Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Antlers, and British Sea Power. Their brand of alt-folk marries classic and contemporary influence from Paul Simon to The National, Fleetwood Mac to Villagers, The Beatles to Bon Iver. Kate Hutchinson at The Guardian says “A darker Maccabees, full of broodiness and great songwriting”. Features include Huw Stephens (Radio 1) and Dave Monks (BBC Radio Merseyside) as a ‘BBC Introducing Discovery’, as well as Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Janice Long (Radio 2). Upcoming shows include Liverpool Sound City & BBC Music Day.

This is a refreshing cover of The Cure’s Boy Don’t Cry by Rebecca Clements. It has tons of vibe and could be a best movie music moment when paired with a perfect scene. She released the debut EP ‘Pure Wasted’ and was championed by XFM as one of their great Xpectations for 2015. The EP was produced by Irish musician/producer Iain Archer who worked with artists such as Jake Bugg and Bat for Lashes as well as being nominated for a 2013 Ivor Novello award for best song. The lead off track ‘Pure Wasted’ is about the toxicity of love and lets Rebecca’s haunting, but equally beautiful voice shine through softly strummed guitar swirls. Rebecca describes the track: “It’s about losing someone you’re with to the strong stuff. Making a play on words of ‘Pure Wasted’, pulling together the idea of a pure substance and a pure love, both are equally as toxic.”“Essentially, it’s a love song. But I wanted it to feel more than that, to tell a story rather than play the victim.”
