Spotify is flexing its muscles by taking an unsigned rapper from zero to hero on its streaming platform. Nevertheless, Arizona Zervas is pretty darn good with commercial appeal. Spotify is touting Los Angeles based Arizona Zervas as the next breakout artist. The Spotify curating team moved the independent rappers track Roxanne to Today’s Top Hits Playlist after showing signs of life as a viral track. Now the track is garnering a million daily streams and he is finally getting offers from majors. But this isn’t the first time Zervas made noise. He first gained attention during the halftime of 2016 Super Bowl when he released a freestyle using NFL teams where the video became a viral success and reached over 8 million views in a week.
CEO Daniel Ek announced that Spotify grew to 248 million monthly average users in the last three months. Spotify forecast it would end 2019 with 255 million to 270 million monthly active users.
“For the eighth consecutive quarter, free cash flow was positive. We continue to see exponential growth in podcast hours streamed (up approximately 39% Q/Q) and early indications that podcast engagement is driving a virtuous cycle of increased overall engagement and significantly increased conversion of free to paid users.”
The Spotify for Artists app will get a fresh update including listening stats so artists can see how many people are playing their songs right now. The artist will also get notified when a song gets added to a playlist or the artist gains new followers.
Spotify wrote, “we’re making it as easy as possible to get to know who’s listening to your music — who they are, where they’re coming from, and similar artists they’re jamming out to. You’ll also be able to see your latest stats for all your songs and playlists in a clear and visual way.”
