Cavalry

Buzz Track: An Understanding

We have become instant fans of Cavalry after listening to the track ‘An Understanding‘. This five-piece alt-folk act recently emerged from Liverpool and have already earned support slots with Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Antlers, and British Sea Power. Their brand of alt-folk marries classic and contemporary influence from Paul Simon to The National, Fleetwood Mac to Villagers, The Beatles to Bon Iver. Kate Hutchinson at The Guardian says “A darker Maccabees, full of broodiness and great songwriting”. Features include Huw Stephens (Radio 1) and Dave Monks (BBC Radio Merseyside) as a ‘BBC Introducing Discovery’, as well as Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Janice Long (Radio 2). Upcoming shows include Liverpool Sound City & BBC Music Day.

Rebecca Clements

Buzz Track: Boys Don’t Cry

This is a refreshing cover of The Cure’s Boy Don’t Cry by Rebecca Clements. It has tons of vibe and could be a best movie music moment when paired with a perfect scene. She released the debut EP ‘Pure Wasted’ and was championed by XFM as one of their great Xpectations for 2015. The EP was produced by Irish musician/producer Iain Archer who worked with artists such as Jake Bugg and Bat for Lashes as well as being nominated for a 2013 Ivor Novello award for best song. The lead off track ‘Pure Wasted’ is about the toxicity of love and lets Rebecca’s haunting, but equally beautiful voice shine through softly strummed guitar swirls. Rebecca describes the track: “It’s about losing someone you’re with to the strong stuff. Making a play on words of ‘Pure Wasted’, pulling together the idea of a pure substance and a pure love, both are equally as toxic.”“Essentially, it’s a love song. But I wanted it to feel more than that, to tell a story rather than play the victim.”

Windmills

Buzz Track: Maps

We’ve become an instant fan of the track ‘Maps‘ by Windmills which is the moniker of genre-bending experimental ambient-indie loop artist, Cory Myraas. Now based in Kelowna, Windmills burst forth from the city of Vernon in the spring of 2011. Impressive both on record and in concert, Windmills has since developed a significant following in the Okanagan Valley and beyond. In the past 4 years, he has released a full-length FACTOR funded LP, a 5-track EP, and two singles over the last two years that have reached blogs across the globe. His latest release, “Maps”, premiered via Indie Shuffle in April and in two weeks the track found its way onto blogs and radio world-wide (Canada, Spain, Holland). He is set to release his second full-length LP in September of 2015. He has two cross-Canada tours in the Spring & festival stops at some of Canada’s largest festivals, sharing stages with some of the US top new artist.

Cut Ribbons

Buzz Track: Clouds

We are big fans of the new single Clouds from the Welsh indie pop act Cut Ribbons. They released two EP’s and singles on Kissabilty Records , and won support from Radio 1, XFM, Radio Wales, The Line Of Best Fit and Clash magazine. The band describes their new single, ‘Clouds’, as being “like M83 having a food fight in Technicolor”. They have played festivals including Reading and Leeds, Boardmasters, SWN, and supported The Joy Formidable and Dry The River. They’re one of BBC Wales’ Horizons 12 and will releases a full length album this summer.

Hidden Hospitlas

Buzz Track: Rose Hips

Alt rock band Hidden Hospitals is gearing up to hit the road in support of their debut full-length album Surface Tension. The Chicago-based foursome–which includes members from previous projects Damiera (Equal Vision Records) and Kiss Kiss (Eyeball Records)–will kick off a nine show run on May 3 in Rochester, NY. Substream says “Based out of Chicago, progressive alt-rock quartet Hidden Hospitals may be new to the scene, but their members aren’t new to the game…So it’s no surprise that their debut full-length, Surface Tension, sounds like an album made not by a new band but by seasoned musicians focused on honing their craft and pushing their sound forward” while Arena.com notes “Surface Tensionis an emotive 12-track rock collection with deep lyrical content, progressive riffs, and a semi-dreamlike quality…These hospitals are no longer hidden; they are about to break out.”
