Entertainment lawyer Dina LaPolt says the music industry must remove the racist term “master recording”. She says terms have long been used to distinguish between a source recording (the “master”) and the copies made (the “slaves”).

LaPolt says “This business has been dominated by white men since its inception, so when coupled with the well-known exploitation of Black artists, the already insensitive use of the phrase “master recording” carries an even more sinister sting. Artists such as Williams, have voiced their discomfort with reading these words in their contracts and have called for changes to be made”.

She says “It is my hope that this sheds light on the issue — enough so that more can and will embrace this impactful change. Removal of such language is a simple yet meaningful step that can make our industry a more welcoming and inclusive space and allow us to reinforce the principle that music is for everyone — no matter one’s race, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or background”

Big tech successfully dismantled the institutions and infrastructures that created mass awareness, but how many creatives broke from the big tech monopoly? My fingers count zero.

Big tech & social media created a simulated world of bots. A second life with little real life detected. They created millions of fake bots that will keep you engaged, amused and vested. TikTok, like the casino throws you bone once on a while. Sit at the slot machine long enough, pushing out content, the system will reward you with a payout of views and comments.

Social platforms are the new Backpage classifieds that was eventually shut down by the feds.

Twitter claims to have 330 million (the population of America) active monthly users. Believable? No.

200 million of the 300 million are bots. And at least 50% of the 100 million real accounts are mostly inactive. The remaining user accounts rarely engage. Twitter is the size of California but it makes you think it’s the globe, but perception is everything in Silicone Valley. Fortunately , perception is not reality.

Pink has called out Rolling Stone mag for snubbing her from a list feature ranking the 25 greatest Grammys performances of all time.

The singer reacted in rage after discovering that she had been left out of the list.

Pink took to the comments to express her discontent, at first writing on Instagram: ‘Bahahahaha you guys have been irrelevant since 1990.’This is the magazine that used to feature people like John Lennon and Muddy Waters. ‘Hunter S Thompson wrote political pieces- they put Tina Turner on their cover. Then they sold out and all credibility went to shit when “style over substance” and “revenue over authenticity” went into play.’ ‘F**k rolling stone. And I’ve felt that way for decades- as so many of my favorite artists and my peers have.

Winner must take all!

After apologizing for creating controversy, Joe Rogan slightly changed his tune. He threatened to sever his multimillion dollar Spotify contract if he is forced to walk on eggshells.

“If I become something different because it grew bigger, I will quit. If it gets to a point that I can’t do it anymore, where I have to do it in some sort of weird way where I walk on eggshells and mind my p’s and q’s, f*** that!” said Rogan of the show with millions of listeners for which he is paid $100 million.

According to LA Mag the quota plan may destroy the Oscars. It’s a perfect storm with sinking ratings, disappearing stars that have been replaced with social media influencers, and boring broadcasts. Now the quota system could be the final nail in the coffin.

Creativity and greatness no longer determines the outcome according to insiders. The rules have been changed by which films are eligible for Best Picture nominations.

Starting in 2024, producers are demanded to submit a rundown of race, gender, sexual orientation, and disability status of members of their movie’s cast and crew. If a movie does not have a significant amount people of color or disabled people or gays or lesbians working on the set then that movie will no longer be eligible for an Oscar.

The quota system is not universally accepted in Hollywood circles.

“Critics say it’s invasive, anticreative, opens the door to privacy issues, and is spectacularly unfair to actors and crew members, who may want to keep their sexual orientation or health profiles to themselves, not to mention to producers and directors who have enough to worry about while shooting a movie than to be saddled with the thankless task of tallying up the identity markers of their creative partners”.

“I mean, why aren’t animals in this?” sneers one industry insider. “What if the main character is a horse?”

“The Oscars drew an all-time low of 9.85 million viewers—less than what an episode of The Big Bang Theory used to get. ”

“Aperture 2025 isn’t the only Academy initiative to recently raise eyebrows in Hollywood. In February, Oscar organizers triggered a civil war in Hollywood over a plan to pretape many of the below-the-line categories—film editing, makeup and hairstyling, original score, production design, the short-film selections—and roll edits of those awards into the live broadcast. Predictably, many Academy members (especially film editors, makeup and hairstylists, and production designers) balked at the change, but at least that one was designed to address an actual existential threat to the ceremony: that it’s become so long and boring that huge swaths of the audience have begun tuning out.”
