Have you been following the twitter war between Cardi B and Candace Owens? It’s viscous. If you haven’t see the Twitter battle, then you’re hiding in a basement. Cardi B has a #1 song with WAP and Candace is closing in on a #1 book titled Blackout. Both have been on the attack since Saturday night with Cardi B dedicating several instagram posts to Candace. Both are on the opposite side of the political sphere while Cardi is on the left side while Candace is on the right. Both are accusing each other of pandering and clout chasing. While many artists are becoming more politically engaged, they’re venturing into a world that is unfamiliar territory. Candace said to Cardi, “You’re coming into my world”.  Although art and politics were always relational, artists must be aware that it’s a rocky road. While artists are working harder than ever to build and keep an attentive fanbase, and as far as art and activism favorably benefiting an artist, well, this year will be a true test.

Check out Pop/R&B singer-songwriter Carsen and the new track ‘Losing My‘. Although the song is about a relationship it couldn’t have been released at a more opportune time because lots of people are losing their shit. “Losing My is about the struggle with anxiety and the self-doubt that comes along with it. It’s a way of saying “f*** you” to the voice in your head that’s telling you you’re not good enough.” says Carsen. The Nebraska native now lives in Los Angeles . She’s currently playlisted on Ones To Watch and LetFutureWave and previously Spotify’s Fresh Finds, Brand New Chill, and Pop Right Now.

Watch out for Haley Gold and the new track Couch (feat. Mvxmilli). It sounds 2010ish when pop had big hooks and chill wave was still underground. Think Jessie J.  The 22 year old New Yorkers draws influences from Julia Michaels, Katy Perry and, Lady Gaga. She was in the former girl group DAME that was working with Boyz II Men, Shawn Stockman. Zachary Knowles newest track Slow Summer is really good. Rightfully so, it has been a slow summer. The Texas singer songwriter is a Kings favorite because his vocal is incredibly silky and smooth, with no effort. Knowles says, “This song is a reminder to just slow down a little, and live in the moment. I hope y’all love it as much as I do.” Knowles is signed to Fader and has nearly a million monthly listeners, landing on Spotify’s Chill Vibes, Chill Pop, and New Music Friday. Give it a stream.

Check out Addicted To The Clouds by Deep Fried Chocolate. A band with a comical name wrote a really cool song. DFC is an indie rock band and relatively new forming in 2019. The 4 piece blends pop, rock, hip and r&b – similar to MGMT.  I dunno, but I need to know where they came up with the name.
