Saving EMI: Read the column ‘Hands Can Save EMI by Making Music Free on Web‘ posted on Bloomberg News. Hands may be smart with money, but so are the Rolling Stones, and if they aren’t sticking around, EMI will be in more strife. And yet Hands is right about one thing: The old rulebook needs to be torn up. But he is wrong to think he can fix EMI with cost cuts. He needs to dig a lot deeper into his pockets.

Ringo Starr Shows His Tough Side: Former Beatle Ringo Starr was scheduled to perform on “Live with Regis & Kelly” on Tuesday and walked off because he and the show’s producers could not agree on the length of his song.

Don’t Bite the ‘Hand’ That Feeds You: Hits Daily Double is claiming that sources are reporting that EMI ruler Guy Hands (pictured – center) is contemplating a libel suit against Robbie Williams manager Tim Clark for statements made to the press about his new regime.

The comments made by Robbie Williams manager Tim Clark to the Times of London that have EMI lawyers reportedly demanding a retraction are his accusing Guy Hands of acting like a “plantation owner” who stumbled into the record industry via a “vanity purchase.”

Also, the forced resignation of Tony Wadsworth, who was chairman and chief executive of EMI Music UK & Ireland for 25 years is still creating after shocks. Tony Wadsworth signed the world’s biggest stars including Coldplay, Radiohead, Robbie Williams, Corinne Bailey Rae, and KT Tunstall. Because of the firing of Wadsworth, Coldplay is in “no hurry” to deliver a new album.

Face Off: Facebook is pulling in more new users than Myspace. The New York Times has an article titled ‘From Myspace to Yourspace‘ that talks about the challenges of Myspace and the growth of Facebook. ” MySpace has challenges, especially from Facebook, which has leapt ahead of MySpace in technology and has been accumulating users at a faster rate. Facebook, with its cleaner interface and higher demographic profile, is also seen by some advertisers as a better bet. By comparison, the reputation of MySpace — with its cluttered and often sexually tinged personal pages and lingering privacy concerns — has suffered.”

“The site suffers, at least in some circles, from an image problem. The prevalence of unwanted friend requests, spam and sexually suggestive material has driven some users away, even giving rise to the term “Myspace refugee.” It still has more page views than any other Web site in the world — more than 1.3 billion a day”.

The Motley Crue Beatdown: I always loved Motley Crue for their sleazy glam rockers, huge live show, and of course their ability to create drama in every city they visited. The drama continues 2 decades later. Gerald Schneeman is suing promoter Live Nation for damages after he was beaten up by an unidentified member of Motley Crue during a concert at the Ford Amphitheater on November 22. According to legal papers Schneeman was standing in front of the stage when he was struck in the head with a guitar by the Motley Crue member – who was not named in the suit. The musician is then said to have jumped down from the stage and knocked Schneeman to the ground, at which point security intervened and began assaulting the fan, before dragging him out of the venue.

EMI facing a mass exodus? Radiohead and Paul McCartney both severed their EMI ties in the past year. EMI’s biggest artists Robbie Williams and Coldplay are voicing their unhappiness with the label. The Verve threatened to delay their record and now mega group Rolling Stones and their management decided to move the new album ‘Shine A Light to Universal’ through rival Universal in part because of their concerns about EMI’s new management. Sources noted that if the Stones walk away from EMI, they will leave behind the rights to songs produced after 1971. EMI will cut up to a third of their workforce and cull its roster of 14,000 artists.

EMI is also considering its artists, to be sponsored by corporate companies, according to reports. The proposals, which could see Coldplay’s new album ‘Prospekt’ released with corporate branding, are expected to feature as part of an extensive shake-up of the company.
