The music business is known as the business of exception and this is definitely an exception. Pop singer Mariah Carey who fell out of the public eye recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new album Caution. Ironically, her album Glitter, a commercial flop, that was released nearly 20 years ago became a topic of discussion. In fact, she said that her life was nearly ruined when she recorded the album Glitter. In reaction to the interview, her fans created the hashtag #justiceforglitter which propelled the album on top of the iTunes Album Chart. Consequently, it beat out new releases by Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, and John Legend.
During the recording of Glitter, Mariah suffered emotional problems that caused her to check into the hospital. Her spokeswoman said that she “suffered an emotional and physical breakdown” due to lack of sleep and was under psychiatric care.
Mariah says, “I can say it now that they got it to No. 1, so I thank them,” she continued. “This is all about them. And I should not have to feel bad about that because it was all about the circumstances when the album came out, so it’s exciting.” CONTINUE READING
Maiya releases the new track Changes. Maiya tells Kings, ‘I wrote changes to show that we need to make a change and not just talk and argue about doing something, but actually taking actions to ensure Changes are made for the better”. At 18, Maiya keeps getting better and better. Her first two tracks Sidelines and No Stopping Me Now are fun, whereas her new single Changes is a bit more serious. Her debut Sidelines has clocked nearly 300k + streams on Spotify and won radio support from KDLW (106.3) Albuquerque, New Mexico, while garnering blog features in Unclear Mag and Vents. Denver based duo Lucy Daydream dropped their debut track A Feeling With A View. With a moody, creeping, intoxicating melody, the track sounds like a mainstream radio hit. Before crafting original songs in a basement studio, the indie pop duo began posting music covers. Ironically, Post Malone’s ‘Go Flex‘ which was one of their first covers clocked over 2 million YouTube streams. Give it a stream.
Alt-pop trio NONONO dropped the track Dancing (Mumbai Wedding) along with a music video. Still, my favorite recent release is Wasted. The Swedish act made some waves in 2014 with the release of Pumpin Blood that sold more than 2 million singles and landed them on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Kimmel, and a US tour supporting Twenty One Pilots and Foster the People. The Swedish act formed in Stockholm following Stina’s return from Brighton University in the UK where she had spent three years studying for a degree in psychology. She’d been signed by a label as a 17-year-old but had grown weary. “I had done two years of just writing with different producers and there was pressure to always be writing something that could be a hit and there were a lot of strict ways of how songs should sound. It took the fun out of it. It made me really sad and made me think I didn’t want to be a songwriter. But, these guys just encouraged creativity and for the songs not having to be a certain way – as long as you feel it and it feels good.” Give the new track a stream.
The Australian native Ivy Adara releases the new radio ready track Currency. The latest song follows her debut single Famous which has nearly 2 million Spotify Streams. Having worked with hit producers, her singles are slickly produced with well crafted hooks. The 23 year old can play guitar as well and seems very comfortable in front of a live audience. Moreover, Spotify’s New Music Friday seems to like her as well.
