Tower Records who just launched its own digital download store is in serious trouble.
Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group Corp. and EMI Group confirmed each had stopped sending albums to Tower Records, and record executives said the the cutoff is due to unpaid bills, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. If the music companies shut off Tower Records for long, the company might have to shut down its 89 locations, including their famed location on Los Angeles’s Sunset Strip, the Times said. The writing is on the wall, the sale of physical CD’s is at its tipping point.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- Don't You Fake It (Virgin Records)If I could only use one word to describe The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’ major label debut it would be “relevant.” Not many albums come out these days that can cross demographic borders without some level of selling out, however ‘Don’t You Fake It’ does so with a professionalism beyond the young band’s years. Strongly rooted in power pop, but certainly not oblivious to other genres, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have created an impressive album of hook-laden rock, leaving even the most jaded critics hard-pressed to find error. The band jumps from arena anthem to mainstream radio hit to power ballad to a nearly 8-minute prog-core epic without missing a beat or breaking a sweat. This album hits on all cylinders, musically, vocally and lyrically with David Bendeth’s production pulling out the absolute best in front man, Ronnie Winter’s composition. The public and critical response since the release of ‘Don’t You Fake It’ has been overwhelmingly positive, promising a very bright future for this KOAR alumn. (4.7/5)

Madonna will performing in the Italian capital on Sunday and she is not welcomed. Rome’s Catholic, Muslim and Jewish leaders have united to condemn Madonna’s decision to stage a mock-crucifixion. She never fails to create national news. Madonna owns the word “controversy” . How does she create controversy this time? wears a crown of thorns and descends on a suspended, glittery cross as part of her worldwide “Confessions Tour”.
Cardinal Ersilio Tonino, speaking with the approval of Pope Benedict XVI said:

“This time the limits have really been pushed too far.
“This concert is a blashphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be excommunicated.”

Madonna can still sell records and create headlines, but radio continues to ignore her.

Performers have had the right to collect revenue from public performances of their recordings in the United Kingdom since December 1996. Phonographic Performance Limited (“PPL) collects money from any person that plays sound recordings publicly in the United Kingdom, and then distributes the monies collected to registered performers and “performing producers. PPL defines a “performing producer as “a studio producer who makes a performing contribution whether audible or inaudible to the live performance which is [recognized] as a performance by the Contracted Featured Performer(s) on that track.. Performing producers were entitled to begin collecting performance royalties as of December 1, 2001.
A performing producer is a studio producer who contributes an audible performance (e.g., plays an instrument or sings) or an inaudible performance (conducts or musically directs the live performance as it is being recorded). Edits, remixes or other reworking of a recording after the initial mix has been made will not qualify for the performance royalty unless these new versions involve new audible performances.
REGISTERING TO RECEIVE PUBLIC PERFORMANCE REVENUE
Step 1. In order for a performer to qualify to receive royalties in the United Kingdom, one of the following two conditions must be satisfied:
a) The performer was a citizen or resident of a “qualifying territory at the time the recording was made; or
b)Â The performer appears on a track that was recorded in the United Kingdom or any other qualifying territory. CONTINUE READING
