Madonna will performing in the Italian capital on Sunday and she is not welcomed. Rome’s Catholic, Muslim and Jewish leaders have united to condemn Madonna’s decision to stage a mock-crucifixion. She never fails to create national news. Madonna owns the word “controversy” . How does she create controversy this time? wears a crown of thorns and descends on a suspended, glittery cross as part of her worldwide “Confessions Tour”.
Cardinal Ersilio Tonino, speaking with the approval of Pope Benedict XVI said:

“This time the limits have really been pushed too far.
“This concert is a blashphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be excommunicated.”

Madonna can still sell records and create headlines, but radio continues to ignore her.

Performers have had the right to collect revenue from public performances of their recordings in the United Kingdom since December 1996. Phonographic Performance Limited (“PPL) collects money from any person that plays sound recordings publicly in the United Kingdom, and then distributes the monies collected to registered performers and “performing producers. PPL defines a “performing producer as “a studio producer who makes a performing contribution whether audible or inaudible to the live performance which is [recognized] as a performance by the Contracted Featured Performer(s) on that track.. Performing producers were entitled to begin collecting performance royalties as of December 1, 2001.
A performing producer is a studio producer who contributes an audible performance (e.g., plays an instrument or sings) or an inaudible performance (conducts or musically directs the live performance as it is being recorded). Edits, remixes or other reworking of a recording after the initial mix has been made will not qualify for the performance royalty unless these new versions involve new audible performances.
REGISTERING TO RECEIVE PUBLIC PERFORMANCE REVENUE
Step 1. In order for a performer to qualify to receive royalties in the United Kingdom, one of the following two conditions must be satisfied:
a) The performer was a citizen or resident of a “qualifying territory at the time the recording was made; or
b)Â The performer appears on a track that was recorded in the United Kingdom or any other qualifying territory. CONTINUE READING

Vol 22 Now That’s What I call Music
TW 150,803
Total 755,969

**The industry hit a new low, when the nation’s No. 1 album, Johnny Cash’s American V: A Hundred Highways, recorded the lowest single-week sales (88,000 copies) of any chart-topper since Soundscan began keeping track in 1991. Now 22 which is a collection of radio hits has sold more copies in its first week than any record in months, has topped 550,000 units sold, and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts for two straight weeks—the closest thing we’ve seen to a legitimate hit album all summer. People love hits and are willing to pay for it.

All The Right Reasons
Nickelback

TW 40,114
Total 3,165,767
**My lord, outselling the RHCP. A hit machine, enough said.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
TW 33,456
Total 1,200,239

**Dani California got seven nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Fever You Can’t Sweat Out
Panic! At The Disco

TW 34,448
Total 973,674
**Riding on a trend. This proves that a faceless band with an ‘ok’ record can still sell albums by teaming up with the right band (Fallout Boy)Â at the right time.

Under The Iron Sea
Keane

TW 12,276
Total 180,375
**This could be their sophomore slump. Keane came out with a buzz that could make one deaf. Now, it’s all changed. Critics seemed to have abandoned the band calling ‘Under The Iron Sea’ sappy and dull. The new record is weak, first record is solid.

YouTube is no doubt the new generation of community websites by becoming even more popular than MySpace, according to research. The video sharing site has taken a 3.9% share of global internet visits a day compared with 3.35% for MySpace, according to internet analysis company Alexa. YouTube’s popularity has grown rapidly over the first six months of the year. In May its reach outgrew that of the BBC’s websites. In contrast, MySpace’s growth appears to have slowed, increasing by just 9% in the same period.

“YouTube has a far more universal appeal, being pure entertainment with a global appeal,” said Dan Calladine, the research director at digital agency network Isobar. “MySpace’s levels have been moving within the same range since April, but YouTube seems to be climbing more steeply than ever.”
