kylie

Songstress Kylie Hughes just released the beachy and rootsy track Take Me Anywhere. Based in Malibu she’s performed at Hollywood legendary venues including Viper Room, Hotel Café, House of Blues, and she sung the National Anthem prior to John Mayer taking the stage. The video for the track is captivating which takes you through some cool spots in sunny Cali.

Kylie notes, “Take me anywhere was inspired by my real life relationship and how we just get up and go every weekend on an adventure. He’s also pretty good with a camera so I had the idea to make the video ‘home movie/road trip’ style. It’s real, it’s personal and there’s no hair and makeup team. Just the two of us being super creative and collaborative, it’s my favorite music video I’ve done so far.”

club-drive

I’m liking Club Drive, an unrestrained, straight forward pop band. The track Dangerous, the first release from their debut EP, has some Maroon 5 moments, but it’s cooler and edgier than the latest from Adam Levine.

Having support from BBC Introducing, the London 4 piece just wrapped up performing on the main stage at Fusion Festival where they played alongside The Vamps and Ella Henderson.

The band is influenced by a wide array of artists. Lead vocalist Aaron Trowbridge notes, “In hindsight our parents actually had great taste in music. Everything from The Police, Phil Collins, Toto, Chicago & Prince to the likes of R’n’B, Garage and Pop-punk through our teenage years.

Stream or buy the EP and let me know what you think.

Morningsiders

Did anyone catch a Morningsiders performance? The folk pop quartet had a string of shows the last couple months and just wrapped up a show at Rough Trade in NYC where the played new material.

The New York City based indie act crafts catchy melodic indie folk in the vein of Mumford & Sons. The band which has flown slightly under the radar, which I don’t know why – the 2014 track Empress has 9 million+ Spotify streams. And the’ve been featured on major playlists including Viral Hits, Hanging Out and Relaxing, Totally Stress Free, and Feel Good Indie Rock.

We’ve been sent new music, but it’s not available to the public yet. It’s good, really good.

Batya

Batya, a 19 year old electro pop artist could be the next big thing. Intrigued by songwriting at an early age, her 15 year old sister bought her guitar who passed away shortly after. Artists’ that write and perform music as a source of therapy always make the best work of art. Timeless and classic songs are created through trials and tribulations.

My personal favorite is What’s My Name. Batya notes, “What’s My Name?” is a song about losing your identity. There was a time in my life where I got lost and wasn’t sure which way to go. During my senior year of high school everybody seemed to know what they wanted to do and where they wanted to go but I didn’t. The answer was actually right in front of me but I was too afraid to see it. I think it had been the first time in my life where I lost sight of who I was and what I wanted. I feel like most of us go through that at one point or another which is what makes this track so relatable. I feel like a 15 year old or an 80 year old can turn it on and just be like “I totally get it.”

The indie songstress is currently working on an album that has a tentative fall release.
