Join The Riot, a Swedish 5 piece alt band have created a buzz with the infectious dance electro track ”Us against the wall”. The band is recording their debut album in a display window in the middle of the Swedish capital this month.
Kings became big fans of Kid Astray, a dance alt pop from Norway that just released an incredibly infectious track ‘Day in June‘ along with a video. They have been described as a motley crew of six friends (including a former junior golf champion, Italian Vogue model and piano prodigy), all in their late teens and early twenties, who knock out day-glo, indie-tinged dance-pop with the effortless ease of musicians with pure pop running through their veins.
We fell in love with the track Tokyo by Nottingham electro-alt act DECO. This upbeat track is layered in synth, hooks, & originality. Think Imagine Dragons “Radioactive”. The single comes off DECO’s second EP ‘Minus’. Completing a mini UK tour this year, the band have recently performed venues including The Barfly, London, O2 Academy Birmingham, Rescue Rooms Nottingham and Kasbah Club Coventry.
Rebel Kites is making some noise with their own brand of folk rock. The London five piece garnered thousands of listens on Soundcloud in the first week of the release and the record received national airplay on BBC Radio and premiered on Indie Shuffle.
The first 3 videos that played on MTV which launched 34 years ago in August 1981. The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star”, Pat Benatar’s “You Better Run” video aired second. Rod Stewart’s video for “She Won’t Dance with Me” aired third.
Today, MTV is barely recognizable. Although they still air a music video awards show, most of the programming is reality based shows.
We’ve become fans of the dream pop Canadian act As The City Rumbles Underneath. The track “Some Like You” that comes off the Prophecies EP is catchy, upbeat & memorable. The band began releasing singles and videos that turned into their first EP, “Flowers from the Stars”. Their music has been featured on indie music blogs and podcasts. The song, “Hearts Expire” was featured in the TV show, “Degrassi-Next Generation” and the fashion publication Flare Magazine’s “Songs of Summer” Songza play list.

Everybody is bailing at Jay Z’s Tidal including Jay Z himself according to insiders. A mass exodus is happening even though Madonna recently said “this is just beginning for Tidal” in the beginning of the week. This failed venture has cost Jay Z millions of his own money according to sources. These Hollywood stars may figured out that ‘technology’ disruption has weakened ‘celebrity branding’. Throwing a celebrity behind a product no longer guarantees a successful launch.
Toronto act Smashing Satellites is off to a good start. The first official single, “Waterfall,” hit the top 50 on the U.S. Mediabase alternative chart and top 40 in Canada. The newest single ‘What It’s All About‘ will soon be released. The latest tracks were produced by Bob Marlette (Tracy Chapman) & Dave Bassett (Fitz and the Tantrums, Serena Ryder). The band just announced a U.S. Tour with IAmDynamite.
