Pop stars like Taylor Swift spend hours putting on makeup before performing a show or even going to the gym. She is always anticipating a camera moment from either a fan or a paparazzi and she can never look a mess.
Apple hits 10 million subscribers in just 4 weeks. The struggling streaming service Tidal only has a couple of hundred thousand sign ups since its launch 5 months ago. But Madonna defended Jay Z’s Tidal & tells the press this is just the beginning. Tidal has a tough road ahead even with celebrities pushing it. Apple is a fierce competitor.
Rebel Kites is making some noise with their own brand of folk rock. The London five piece garnered thousands of listens on Soundcloud in the first week of the release and the record received national airplay on BBC Radio and premiered on Indie Shuffle. The live show consists of an ensemble sharing over fifteen instruments on stage, and Rebel Kites’ dynamic, visual live show has risen through the London circuit, at venues such as Birthdays, The Finsbury, The Old Queen’s Head, Oxjam and many warehouse shows. We’ve become a fan of the Brisbane trio Avaberée (aye-va-ber-ee). The new single “Can’t Get You Off My Mind” is a solemn & enigmatic classic that has Enya-esque melody. The song was crafted in Los Angeles with upcoming producer Tommy English (Ladyhawke, Borns) which comes off the forth coming EP, ‘In your arms I found my secrets’. Avaberée has toured the east coast of Australia supporting Matt Corby, Emma Louise, Will and The People, The Trouble With Templeton and Stu Larson. Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J says “This is really elegant and nodding pop music. The approach has obvious charm but it’s adorned simply enough to really make an impact with each listen.”

Brooklyn based Marlowe Grey released Sugar Plumb Fairy that will come off the new EP, ‘Midnight In Brooklyn’. The track is ambient & hypnotic capturing a slice Radiohead. Frontman Anthony Pietro states that “the single is inspired by ““The title itself comes from listening to old Beatles and John Lennon bootlegs where Lennon himself would often start his takes with ‘sugar plum fairy, sugar plum fairy,’ instead of the traditional ‘one-two, one-two.'” The band has performed Brooklyn Bowl, Mercury Lounge and The Knitting Factory and will release the debut EP this fall followed by an LP soon after.
