Indie Pop’s new upcoming singer/songwriter, Natalie Major has become a Kings favorite. Natalie Major takes influence from artists such as Sia, Foxes, Lana Del Rey, Grace Potter, Lissie, among others. Following her recent release of her single, “The Rescue”, Natalie is set to release her EP “Little Mockingbird” in Spring of 2014. She usually gigs around in LA performing in venues such as Room 5 and The Voodoo Lounge.

Kylie Odetta

Kings favorite Kylie Odetta has released her new album on iTunes. We featured Kylie multiple times showcasing her songs and once again she delivered another cool track Waiting Game which can be heard here, and listen to the other song Maybe I’ll Stay. She is a masterful young singer-songwriter who has been called an old soul and penned over 200 songs. She has opened for Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, and Kellie Pickler.

Buzz Track: Eleven:11

Rapper PELL who hails from Jackson, Mississippi by way of New Orleans, has generated his own genre called “dream rap.” With features already in Fader and XXL for his track: Eleven:11, King’s latched on years ago after seeing “The Wild.” With an upcoming tour of 25 dates, Pell is an artist to watch.

He didn’t play instruments, so he wrote every song by singing all the parts to tape. It’s mesmerizing.

This astonishing demo of “Beat It” is making its way around Tumblr thanks to the Michael Jackson fan blog Rhythm of the Tide.

It’s beautiful all on its own, but it’s also extremely valuable in how it gives us insight into how Jackson wrote and arranged so many hit songs on his own even though he was not particularly proficient at playing instruments.

Here’s Rob Hoffmann, a sound engineer who worked with Jackson, describing the singer’s process:

“One morning Michael came in with a new song he had written overnight. We called in a guitar player, and Michael sang every note of every chord to him. ‘Here’s the first chord first note, second note, third note. Here’s the second chord first note, second note, third note,’ etc., etc. We then witnessed him giving the most heartfelt and profound vocal performance, live in the control room through an SM57.

Recently selected as the winner of Guitar Center’s National Singer Songwriter 2 Competition out of over 13,000 entrants, Jeff Campbell just finished and released a 5 song EP with Grammy Winning Producer John Shanks (Sheryl Crowe, Keith Urban, Bon Jovi). He performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and has performed at various venues including Rockwood Music Hall, World Cafe Live, Room 5, the Viper Room, and The Basement.
