UK’s Becky Hill released her new single and video “Space”. The track comes off her debut studio album out on March 19, 2021. She definitely has that big powerhouse vocal which you don’t hear too much today. It’s all about the Eilish whisper right now. The 26 year old made a name for herself after a good run on the UK’s Voice in 2012, but not a household name. TV’s talent shows don’t produce stars but she started writing songs for other artists and had her in hand in many dance floor fillers.
She signed to Polydor in 2017 and scored her first hit single ‘Better Off Without You’. I like Becky because she’s isn’t about being the queen of social media. It’s all about performance and the vocal.
“I enjoy writing music, I enjoy performing, but I’ve always felt like it’s quite a nasty environment – social media, generally.” says Becky.
And Becky admitted, “Yeah, no I can’t do TikTok challenges!”
“And if I had it my way, I would never look at TikTok. It would never be invented! But here we are.”
Watch out for Speelburg and the debut album Porsche that he released via his own Sophomore Slump/Kartel Music Group. Before you dig into the album just start with the newly released video “Gwyneth (Get Up!)”. He’s kinda funny with minimal effort and could probably have a successful career at comedy if the music gig doesn’t take off. But having colorful career thus far, he’s on the up. He landed on the cover of Spotify’s Alt. Pop. playlist as well as receiving the praises from Noisey, Ones To Watch, The Line of Best Fit, Pigeons & Planes, Clash Magazine. The latest album was written and produced by Speelburg and mixed by Ben H. Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective, Kaiser Chiefs).
Look out for Command Sisters and the track Lonely Lullaby. Regardless of what genre you like, it’s pretty easy to get into the mid-tempo song that deals with chaotic and addictive relationships. The track has tinge of rock and was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Tim Pagnotta (Walk The Moon, Weezer). So who are the Command Sisters? They’re Charlotte and Sarah Command, a sister duo from Alberta, Canada that started out as a country act that made treks to Nashville. Take a look at their photos, clothes, hair, and the overall aesthetic. It’s mostly red, black, and white. I like it a lot. Sarah says, “During that time I needed a distraction, and focusing on my music career was the best way to get over the trauma I went through in high school. It honestly sounds like a marketing scheme, but music was truthfully the thing that kept me going and motivated to get out of bed.”
Give it a stream…..
Watch out for Amy Allen and her new track Heaven. Take a quick listen and you’ll hear a powerful voice that resonates. The track was written with Jon Bellion and it’s personal. “I made this song for my family, friends, and for anyone who has ever loved someone struggling with addiction, says Allen. This is a big step for Allen. It’s the first time she is taking center stage as an artist after writing hits for Harry Styles, Halsey, and Selena Gomez.
The 19 year old Bella Hutton drops the ballad Only You. The sultry ballad will melt your soul. Ha! Although she sounds nothing like these artists, she’s influenced by Amy Winehouse, The 1975, and Billie Eilish. The singer-songwriter landed on Spotify’s New Pop UK & Chilled Pop Hits Playlists.
